Terms of Use:
-
The NCI-Frederick Scientific Library E-Z Proxy service
allows NCI-Frederick employees off-site access to online resources licensed by the
Scientific Library or those available to NCI-Frederick employees via the NIH Libraries
Consortium license agreements.
-
Whenever the Library purchases access to an online
resource such as a database or an online journal, a license agreement must be signed.
These agreements restrict access to Authorized Users (i.e. NCI-Frederick employees).
-
NCI-Frederick employees will use their Library-issued Barcode
Number, located on the back of your NCI-Frederick employee ID. If you have a new NIH Badge you'll see a
barcode on the back with a Personal Identifier ID number above it. You will use this
10 digit number anywhere a Barcode Number is required, but you must come to
the Library to have it registered. Otherwise, you will not be authenticated properly
when you need to use the Off-site access service.
-
Such agreements typically stipulate that it is the
responsibility of individual users to ensure that online resources are used for personal
and/or educational non-commercial purposes without systematically downloading, printing,
distributing, or retaining substantial portions. We ask you to respect the copyright
of owners as well as any user restrictions that may be identified as you visit these
resources. NCI-Frederick users are advised to read the Notice
of Copyright / Use Restrictions for Electronic Resources Purchased by the NCI-Frederick
Scientific Library posted on the Librarys web site.
-
The Library reserves the right to terminate off-site
use of the Librarys online resources should any unauthorized use be discovered, including
sharing of privileges with non-authorized individuals.
-
To use online resources from off-site, you must use
the E-Z Proxy service to access licensed electronic resources if you use a third party
Internet Service Provider (e.g. AOL, Earthlink) via DSL, cable, ISDN, or regular dial-up
modem.
-
To report problems accessing the databases from off-site,
call (301) 846-5849 or e-mail NCIFredlibrary@mail.nih.gov.
Please include in your e-mail your full name, the database you are trying to access,
your library barcode number, or NIH Badge Number and a brief description of the problem. Note that
older versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer are not recommended for use with off-site
access.
